How do I log an Attendance call / record a future absence?

To log an Attendance call:

  • Click on Attendance response and then Log call at the top of the screen

  • You will be taken to the following screen

  • Select the Student the absence is for by clicking on the drop down or typing the name
  • Select the parent/carer
  • Change the date and time of the call if necessary
  • Enter a description of the call

Then it will depend on whether you are recording a past/present or future absence on how to proceed.

Recording absence for today or past day (where there is currently an N mark)

  • Click on Show tracked absences and any N marks will be displayed for that period
  • Select the relevant absence and click Explain selected absence

  • Change the explanation start and end dates if necessary.
  • Select the reason for absence and then Write mark. The absence will now show in the register in SIMS.

Recording a future absence

  • As this is a future absence there will not be an N mark in Schoolcomms to explain so instead of selecting ‘Show tracked absences’ select Explain unlisted absence.

  • The date will automatically default to tomorrows date, if the future absence is not tomorrow then select the correct date.
  • Select the correct session, it will automatically default to AM as start and end date so change if necessary.
  • Select the reason for absence and then Write mark. The future absence will now show in the register in SIMS.

NB: The ‘Write absence comment to SIMS’ box will be ticked by default. If you only wish to write the mark back and not the comment this box will need to unticked before clicking on Write mark.
