Why are SIMS reports being received as XML files?

Schoolcomms converts SIMS reports to PDF files at the point of sending.
Should this conversion fail for any reason (there can be a number of reasons but it is typically caused by a resource issue on the PC at the time the email was sent), the reports are sent as the raw XML files as a fallback.

Although the PC sending the reports may have available RAM, Schoolcomms requires a certain amount of 'contiguous' memory (i.e. a block of memory that is together) depending on the size of the data provided to us by SIMS, in order to import and send the SIMS reports successfully.

Please close all other applications and try sending them again and the reports should send as PDF files.

Providing the reports can be exported successfully from SIMS directly, the PDF conversion should be successful when the reports get sent via Schoolcomms.

However if the problem persists, even when sent from a different PC, it could be an issue with the XML template file.

So we can investigate further, please send across the base template file from SIMS to either support@schoolcoms.com or complete a support request here.

This can be accessed via Focus > Assessment > Individual Report, by finding the relevant report and clicking the ‘Word Template’ button.
