Menus - Creating allergy safe menus (Admin Users ONLY)

Creating Menu Items

Go to Menus > Items > select a Menu Item Type > click Add

Make sure the following tabs are filled in:

Details tab

When filling in the details for a new Menu Item make use of the Name field[1] to include words like Gluten-free, Vegan, Dairy-free, etc.

Allergens tab

The Allergens tab contains a checklist of the 14 most common dietary allergens and an option for No Allergens [1] if a menu item does not have any known allergens. If an Allergen is selected in the Allergen checklist the menu item will be unavailable for any students who are allergic to the allergen.

Important:  This checklist should be completed and, if required, use the Notes [2] column to record any specific details for an allergen.

Click Save [3] to record the allergen information for a food item.

Diet type tab

The Diet type tab contains a check list of dietary restrictions for cultural or religious purposes e.g. Vegetarian [1]. Click Save[2] when the list is complete.

Creating a New Menu

Go to Menus > left mouse click a Menu type > click Add Menu [1]

In the Add Menu pop-up enter a Description [2] (e.g. Gluten Free Menu #1), set the Category [3] and Availability check boxes [4] as required, click Save[5].

When you have created a Menu click the new Menu and use the Menu Items [1] lists to populate the menu then click Save [2].

Click the Report [3] button to generate a Report.pdf document which will be automatically  downloaded; this will include a breakdown of the Menu Items Allergens[4].

Creating Menu Templates

In the Templates sub-menu, left mouse click on the Templates[1] or Student Templates [2] sub-menu item and click the Add Template[3] option.

  • The Templates[1] sub-menu are used to create templates to be assigned to Sites
  • The Student Templates[2] sub-menu are used to create templates to be assigned to a student or class/year

In the Menu Templates pop-up window, enter a Description [4] and press Save [5].

Menus are available for selection in the Menus [1], these menus can be added to the Weekly Menu calendar[2].

After assigning menus to the template calendar click Save[3].

Applying a menu template to a Student

Go to Meals > Students tab > select an Area/Site[1] > select a Student [2]

In the Edit Student window go to the Students tab [3] make sure the Type [4] drop-down is set to Student. Select a menu template from the Menu Template[5] drop-down to assign the Gluten Free Menu #1 template and click Save [6].

NOTE Menu templates for students with Dietary Requirements and Allergies remain active if a Theme day menu is applied to a site/area, making it possible for these students to keep their Special Menu items.

Desktop

When a Student Menu template is assigned to the Student details it will override any Theme day menus applied globally by the admin user.

Tablet

The Student Menu Template items remain visible to the student/parent when making selections in Tablet > Meal Register.

Whiteboard

The Student Menu Template items remain visible to the student/parent when making selections on the whiteboard.

Online bookings

The Student Menu Template items remain visible to the student/parent when making selections in the ParentPay parent bookings page and the School Comms parent bookings page.
